Madoff Money in Divorce Settlement

Newsday.com reports that New York lawyer Steven Simkin is trying to recover, from his ex-wife, $2.7 million that was lost in the Madoff fraud case. Simkin took the Madoff account and paid $6.6 million to the former wife as her share of the estate. Now, Simkin has filed suit seeking a return of the cash wife took representing her share of the Madoff funds.

Do we now need to be closely examining these accounts to make sure the money really is in the account? First the ex-wife, then us?

You are definitely going to have to start checking these accounts. Having an analyst compare the statements received to what really happened should avoid this sort of thing.
