Which Task Manager Is Best?

Wunderlist hdI’ve tried a dozen or more task managers. I’ve spent a small fortune on software and web-based services. I’ve lost count of the different products I’ve tried.

I’ve settled on one now that has served me very well for the past few months.

It’s Wunderlist.

It’s free.

After all the money I’ve spent, I can’t believe I’ve settled on a free product.

But it’s working for me.

Wunderlist is simple. It’s basically a collection of to-do lists without much else. It has basic features like adding notes, dates, reminders, etc. It’s a very attractive program.

It’s cross-platform and runs on Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, etc. You can even access your list via a web browser.

Once you set up an account, it syncs across the various platforms so your laptop and phone stay in sync.

It doesn’t offer sub-tasks. You can’t enter a start date or repeating tasks. It’s simple. Really simple.

Here’s the thing: I’m getting lots of stuff done. I’m more productive than I have been with any of the previous applications.

I’d suggest you check out Wunderlist. After all, it’s free.

I tried Wunderlist for about a month awhile back, but I need the complexity of due dates and repeating tasks and subtasks.  I found that OmniFocus is similar but more full-featured (though expensive).  Just depends on what your needs are!

Exactly – you’ve got to find the one that works for you. I bought the whole OmniFocus deal including the application, ipad app, syncing service (back before they offered syncing), etc., etc. and I thought it was great. Except for the fact that I was spending more time screwing around with OmniFocus than actually doing stuff. That went on for probably a year. That’s how I roll. I’m kind of a productivity disaster.

For whatever reason the simplicity of my current system is working for me. I hope it keeps working for at least a little while.

It all comes down to what you said – “it depends on what your needs are” – and, unfortunately, what we think our needs are and what our needs, in fact, are may not be the same thing.

I’ve used Wunderlist for a few days now. I really like it so far. It would be nice to have a reoccurring task option, but that’s not that big of a deal.

Do you know if there’s a way to assign tasks to other Wunderlist users?
