Here’s How to Get Lucky

We went to see Christo’s “The Floating Piers” in Northern Italy.

Someone on Facebook called us “so lucky.”

We built a practice where clients pay significant fees.

Someone in an e-mail wrote, “You’re lucky to be in a market where clients can afford that.”

But we’re not lucky.

We knew of “The Floating Piers” long before it happened. We put it on the calendar, planned our visit, rented an apartment, booked flights, and made it happen.

It’s the same with the clients. We visualized a practice that could afford to pay good people to do good work for good clients. We planned, piece by piece, the steps required to build such a practice and took action to make it happen.

There was no luck involved.

And there’s no reason you can’t be just as “lucky.”

It’s All About the Vision

The key is having the vision to decide what you want to make happen. You’ve got to see it to bring it to fruition.

“If you don’t know where you’re going, then any road will get you there.” I have no idea who said that, but it’s true. Following one random path, then another, and then another is the course for most of us. We don’t have a specific destination in mind.

We have only vague notions about money, status, and lifestyle. We have very non-specific ideas about our clients, client experience, team members, assets, finances, etc. We have a tough time imagining what people will say about us, think about us, or feel about us as we do what we do. The best most of us can do is to see what’s wrong with others and profess to do better. We can’t see ourselves making it happen.

Christo made “The Floating Piers” out of nothing. It didn’t exist before he saw it in his mind. Then, out of that nothingness, he created something that attracted untold numbers of visitors.

Christo searched for a location, navigated engineering challenges, organized finances, negotiated people issues, and created a work of art.

You’ve got to do the same thing. You need to see it so you can build your business. Until you can see it, you’re just going down random roads to wherever they lead. You’re not going where you’d like to go. The business is happening to you, instead of you making it happen.

Lesson two of Rosen’s Rules is all about vision. Isn’t it time you gained some clarity?

Visions happen as a result of knowing what you want and then figuring out how to build it. They don’t happen as a result of luck. Take the free Rosen’s Rules course and get lucky.
