Podcast: Your Law Firm Is Like a Restaurant

Every day, I’m challenged with finding restaurants in a foreign place. In many ways, restaurants are like law firms tackling their marketing in three broad ways.

  1. You have loud ones that pack their dining rooms and lure anybody in with flashy signs and dancing performers.
  2. There are quiet ones that aren’t plastered in your face but accumulate a wealth of positive reviews online.
  3. Then you have the invisible ones that rely solely on word-of-mouth referral and don’t spend a dime on advertising.

Each type of restaurant has its flaws, but they all do very well, acquiring customers in a very strategic manner. The successful ones never mix loud, quiet, or invisible efforts—they’re focused.

And…here comes the law firm analogy:

You can be any type of law firm, but the key is to know your strategy in advance. You need to deliberately create a plan for how you want your law firm to function. You need a vision and a strategy to follow.

When you know how and where you’re headed, you’ll invest smarter, stay focused, and go further.

You can try a little of everything, meandering toward vague goals, or you can zero in on your vision and achieve greater success much faster.

Hit play and learn some operating strategy from the most successful restaurants.
